Sydney Implant and Periodontal Care

Sydney Implant and Periodontal Care was established by Dr Rob Fell as a specialist periodontal practice focusing on implant dentistry and the treatment of periodontal disease. We have two convenient locations in the Sydney CBD and Mosman. Experienced specialist periodontist, Dr Jessica O’Neill, joins Rob working at our Mosman Practice.

Our team places the patient at the centre of everything we do – providing the highest standard of care, in a modern, relaxed and warm environment. We work closely with you and your dentist to ensure the best possible outcomes. In our modern practice we utilise digital record keeping systems and digital x-rays to minimise our environmental footprint.

Rob is an experienced specialist in periodontics and all aspects of dental implants. He graduated with a Bachelor of Dentistry in 2003 and worked as a general dentist in both metropolitan and regional practices – gaining extensive experience in general dentistry. Whilst working as a general dentist he completed the general stream fellowship with The Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons with electives in Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry. During this time, he also supervised and taught oral surgery to dental students at The University of Sydney.

Rob went on to complete specialist training in Periodontics, graduating with a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Periodontics) from The University of Sydney and gained his second fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.

Rob places hundreds of implants a year, regularly receives referrals for patients needing bone grafting and uses advanced and modern technology in the treatment of periodontal disease and placement of implants.  He enjoys taking a team-based approach, regularly working with dentists and other specialists in managing complex cases and optimising implant outcomes.  Having this experience re-enforces the practices’ philosophy of maintaining natural teeth through quality periodontal treatment.

Outside of dentistry Rob loves to spend time with his wife and three sons. He loves to go skiing with family and friends, enjoys travelling to places off the beaten track.

Profile portrait of Dr Jessica O'Neill, periodontistMeet Dr Jessica O’Neill – Periodontist

Jessica graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (Honours) in 2003. Following this, she worked at Westmead Centre for Oral Health gaining experience in the general practice department and on rotation to the specialist departments of paediatric dentistry; special needs dentistry and maxillofacial surgery. This led her to the UK where she completed two years of training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; head and neck trauma and oncology; skin cancer, as well as routine oral surgery. Whilst in the UK, she completed the rigorous examination process gaining Membership in the Fellow of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Although Jess was a bit nervous about the dreary English weather, she googled “the town with most sun in England” (Bognor Regis) and applied to the closest training hospital to this (Chichester). Luckily, it turned out to be one of the most coveted jobs in the UK due to its proximity to London and excellent training. At the end of two years she backpacked through Europe and South America before arriving back in Sydney to start specialist training in Periodontics.

She completed her specialist periodontal training at The University of Sydney – graduating with Distinction / High Distinction in a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Periodontics) and gained a second fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. She has recently been awarded a third fellowship for “outstanding professional achievement, meritorious service, and dedication to the continued progress of dentistry for the benefit of humankind.” – the Fellowship of the International College of Dentists.

Jessica enjoys combining a mix of private periodontal practice and working as an academic. She holds a teaching and research position with The University of Sydney as a Senior Clinical Lecturer and as a Senior Clinical Specialist for NSW Health. Recently, she held an appointment as acting Head of Department (Periodontics, Endodontics, Prosthodontics), and provides seminars and lectures in the areas of periodontal and implantology. She is also a regular examiner for the Australian Dental Council, Royal College of Dental Surgeons and The University of Sydney and also undertakes report writing as an expert witness in medicolegal cases.

Her mother was the impetus for her to become a periodontist – having a terrible experience at the dentist as a child. To this day her mother still finds visits to the dentist elicit feelings of anxiety (which is such a common story!). Jess grew up wishing she could help…and now she can. Jess takes a holistic view of patient care and aims to provide excellent quality care in a nurturing way. She takes great pleasure in supporting patients to transform their oral health.

When Jess is not working, she is busy with my 3 energetic children and her covid lockdown menagerie (one large dog, 3 chickens, 2 guinea pigs and rabbit). She can often be found driving her kids to their many sports; on the beach for Nippers or lifting weights at the gym (her latest hobby).
